1 in 3 people in the UK are exhausted due to insomnia and poor sleep quality. Most people can recognize when they are physically tired but may not notice when they are mentally and emotionally exhausted. If you don’t notice it and take a break you could end up with depression. There are several warning signs you’re mentally and emotionally exhausted: –
You Can’t Get Motivated
Once upon a time, you were ready to take on the world. Now you can’t seem to muster up the motivation to even get going and your work starts to pile up.
You Are Easily Upset
Mental and emotional exhaustion means that you feel everything more intensely.
At any other time, an offhand comment or joke might roll right off your back. Now, the least little thing breaks through your defences and makes you want to hide from the world.
You Cry at the Drop of a Hat
Just like your feelings are right at the surface, so are your tears. Even if you’re not usually a crier, others’ words and actions start to hit you right where it hurts.
When you’re completely exhausted, all the stresses that you encounter feel more intense. They build up inside you, and eventually, all your system can do to cleanse itself is cry.
You Can’t Sleep
Even though you are exhausted, worrying thoughts stop you from relaxing and insomnia is just another thing you must worry about.
As exhaustion causes your little stresses to feel bigger, you begin to feel overwhelmed easily. You find yourself having anxious thoughts daily.
Try not to get carried away by the fear. Remember, it’s a signal that you need to slow down and give yourself some time to cope.
Take some alone time and figure out what you need that you’re not getting.
Can be due to poor sleep quality, high anxiety and worrying thoughts.
It would be all to easy to beat yourself up – telling yourself that you are weak, that you need to pull yourself together and crack on but that won’t help. It would be better to be kind to yourself to listen to your emotions and ask yourself what needs are not being met. Give yourself a break so that you can think more clearly and identify what you need to do.
